And he said to them, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘Put your sword on your side each of you, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and each of you kill his brother and his companion and his neighbor.’” … “Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘Put your sword on your side each of you, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and each of you kill his brother and his companion and his neighbor.’
Notes from CFC 3/4/12 "A New American Dream"
This week I’m trying to display my notes in an easier way. With vs. Like – The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit
As I read through the book of Acts and I’m working on my @iamstpaul project there is never any question that God is WITH Paul. (except for maybe when he’s getting stoned to death–but right after that there was no question!) I think that’s also how God knew that King David would “accomplish everything I want him to do” because He knew David wanted to be WITH God and in God’s presence more than he wanted to seek equality with God.
Saturday Night at the Fall Retreat
Here is my presentation from Saturday Night at the Fall retreat. Once again it was a blast. The main ideas should be evident. Enjoy.
Drawing Closer to God
No The word phobos is used in a lot of places like “They were afraid of the Jews” but in a lot of other places it is used to describe the feeling people had after an amazing miracle had just happened. … And walking in reverence for it’s husband and by being drawn near and closer to God by the Holy Spirit, the church multiplied.
Equal Connections of Preachers and Waiters
In Acts 6, there begins to be a controversy over dividing up the money to care for the widows. The Greek widows aren’t getting equal care to the Jewish widows. Acts 6:2 So the twelves called the whole group of the disciples together and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word […]
The Holy Spirit, Gifts, and Freedom
(I realize this quote starts out kind of arrogant, but stay with me.) We lack for Christians who feel themselves expendable in the warfare of the soul, who cannot be frightened by threats of death because they have already died to the attractiveness of this world. Such Christians will be free from the compulsions that […]
Jesus Shows His Love for All of Us Doubters
This morning the thing that is striking me the most about John 20:26 is that Thomas was STILL with them 8 days later. That is a big deal. He would obviously be outcast, not sharing the faith of the others that saw and believed (I’ll still call that faith) or the belief of the others […]
Lanterns, Torches, Swords
John 18:3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons. They took lanterns because they walked in darkness and refused to walk by the Light. They took torches because they did not know the fiery Glory of […]
Walking the Path around a Convent in Ferdinand, Indiana
Sunday I took my two oldest sons to Family Day at the Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, Indiana. My Aunt, who is in her 60s, has been part of the community there since she was 18. It’s pretty cool walking around such a place. I’ve taken my sons to St. Meinrad and we’ve snuck around, […]
