May 29, 2020 by Dan Sullivan

And the child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance to Israel.

And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

We haven’t had an old-school Sunday school class in forever, have we? Just like parents suddenly got a crash course in being teachers to their kids, everybody suddenly became full-time Next-Gen pastors too!

Well if you haven’t started yet, it isn’t too late to invent a routine of worship and growth with your kids. If you don’t have kids, walk out onto your porch or go for a walk.

When you see them, look at these verses and pray. It’s all true for them too.

  • God’s favor is on them, Jesus declared that from His coming onward into the future (Luke 4:21)
  • God desires to fill them with wisdom and knowledge of Him. (1 Timothy 2:4)
  • They are able to become strong in spirit even now as children. We express this a lot with the phrase “Worshippers Now!” instead of regarding kids as people that will be able to worship God someday when they are older and when they understand more. (1 Samuel 3:7–11)

Kids all around are open to hear you tell them about Jesus, Paul, Peter, David, and whoever if you have the conversation to start. So start it!

The team at One Life is putting out all kinds of stuff to help you out. You can see it all on the website and subscribe to the emails and things there.

You can also start by reading Proverbs to them, not even a whole chapter, but just a Proverb or two. Talk about it and ask them what they think about it. As you explore and learn and grow together, you’ll be training them that the Christian life isn’t a one and done activity for Sundays in another building, but a way of life.

You’ll all grow and love it even more together.
