Here are a bunch of books I’ve read. I’m funny because I rarely read a book in isolation. I usually read about 3 books at the same time, but they are all overlapping so I never get to a point where I say, “I’m not reading anything right now.”

Below is a link to all of these books on Amazon, and then links to articles that I’ve written that include those books. If you have a cool book you think I should read, send it my way.

This is blank right now because I was using some outdated Amazon affiliate codes. Come back sometime and see if this page is updated. If not, buy me a book!

  • The Holy Spirit – Imparted as a Whole

    • March 2, 2017
I just started reading “The Holy Spirit in Action” by Sheed and some of it is already blowing my mind. Some of it is just pondering the implications of God having and being a spirit. I’ll post the quote from the book, which is kind of heady and out there, then my interpretation which might…

  • Screwtape in Danger

    • May 5, 2015
I’m reading the Screwtape Letters, which has to be, by far, my favorite book of all. Screwtape is writing to his nephew, a junior demon that has just begun the job of tempting a human and leading him (hopefully for Wormwood) to Hell. Screwtape is talking in this section about how ‘The Enemy’ (which of…

  • Adventure and Safety in the Church

I’m still taking a long, slow read through The Forgotten Ways by Alan Hirsch. It is really good. This week I’ve had several conversations about community, Christian community, koinonia, and church. This quote sounded really good for today as we go out to the YMCA Pancake Days, then play with neighborhood kids at boys group…

  • Goal of Life vs. Goal of Our Vacation Quote

    • January 6, 2014
If we would only give, just once, the same amount of reflection to what we want to get out of life that we give to the question of what to do with a two weeks’ vacation, we would be startled at our false standards and the aimless procession of our busy days. – Dorothy Canfield…

  • Faith and Authority from Keith Hueftle's book on Grace

    • August 14, 2013
From The Trouble With Grace by Keith Hueftle Under orders, and with confidence in the person’s authority giving the orders, you might expect to do such a bizarre, inane thing. But this is not a call to presumption. Jesus is not asking to work up a so-called “faith” – self-generated – in order to make…
