Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.â€Â (John 18:36 ESV)
Jesus refers to His servants here (strong’s) 5257.  huperetes, hoop-ay-RET-ace; from 5259 and a derivative of eresso (to row); an under-oarsman, i.e. (generally) subordinate (assistant, sexton, constable): — minister, officer, servant.
Other places that word means Officers and guards. The wild thing to me is that Jesus probably isn’t talking about Peter and the boys! They were trying to fight! Jesus is talking about the Heavenly Host, the armies of God. Dozens of times God sent them to aid Israel against the Philistines, the Amalekites, etc. but this day they would stand by.
Max Lucado tells a story of all of the angels in heaven being restrained while Jesus goes through His passion. That is silly, because their will is the Father’s will. Through all of this, they are praising God for His amazing wisdom, glory, grace, mercy, and forsight. His will is being done; His plan is being consumated, and the Son is going to do all He can to complete it.
