John 19 – Jesus Died on the Cross on Purpose

Dan Sullivan · February 25, 2019 ·

Here is my sermon on John 19. What is unusual about this is that usually I would preach on the passion and crucifixion on Easter, but since I’m doing expository preaching chapter by chapter through John, we have Easter in February!

Pilate, Jesus, the Jewish leaders of the day, I talk about a lot of things in here.

Enjoy, and share any feedback or comments on your own blog or Facebook.

T.D. Jakes Talk at the 2018 Global Leadership Summit

Dan Sullivan · September 6, 2018 ·

Whenever T.D. Jakes speaks at the Global Leadership Summit, I get excited. I’m not sure I can tolerate listening to sermons or church from him, but I do really enjoy his talks at the GLS for some reason.

T.D. Jakes at 2018 Global leadership Summit notes

He was inspiring, that is for sure. I especially liked what he said about Kentucky Fried Chicken starting in the right time and the right place. KFC would never get started now. It started so strong when it did because people loved it when their moms cooked chicken but the moms were all going to work. The moms and dads loved it and the kids did too.

The Wright brothers deal was strong too. There are things that are too awesome for the people or the setting in which they start. Like my coffee backpack! It was so awesome!

The general point is to be passionate about something and then find ways to act on that passion. Assuming it is a passion that is led by the Lord and inspired by advancing the Kingdom of Heaven, that is right on. Find the thing that God has called you to do and then work at it with all of your heart!

Restraint During Injustice

Dan Sullivan · August 30, 2010 ·

There are so many things that Jesus hears through this that were SO WRONG but He didn’t protest. One way of protest would have been to stick up for Himself, to get Himself freed. What questions He DOES ask are more toward walking the fools around Him toward the truth. He is not concerned with rescueing Himself in this situation, but His accusers.John 18:31 “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.” They are referring to Roman law, but in this case they are indicting themselves. It is not lawful for them to put anyone to death under God’s law either, without a proper trial. One person speaks up about this back in John 7:51 (it was Nicodemas from John 3:16!) but He is shouted down.

Jesus heard this and didn’t chime in to say yeah!

John 18:31 “Judge Him by your own law.” They can’t because if they did, they would find no guilt in this man. Jesus doesn’t shout an amen or a “YEAH!” but listens. That might even be why He doesn’t bother to argue with Pilate. He knows that none of these people are listening to arguments or reason.

John 18:37 “Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” [38] Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

It is too easy for people when they don’t understand Jesus, to write Him off and not wonder or think about if maybe, just maybe, He was true.
