Babylonian Commander Nebuzaradan cares for the Poor

Dan Sullivan · October 21, 2008 ·

Jer. 39:10 But Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard left behind in the land of Judah some of the poor people, who owned nothing; and at that time he gave them vineyards and fields.

A commander of the Babylonian army sees fit to give land to people that are poor, but the people of Israel did not. They would not celebrate the Sabbath of the Land or return land to the family from which it came in the year of Jubilee.
What evil shame Nebuzaradan testified to when he gave the poor in the land vineyards and fields to work.

Get Your Dead Body Off My Property!

Dan Sullivan · August 15, 2008 ·

Jer. 20:1 ¬? When the priest Pashhur son of Immer, the chief officer in the temple of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things,
Jer. 20:2 he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin at the LORD’s temple.
Jer. 20:3 The next day, when Pashhur released him from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The LORD’s name for you is not Pashhur, but Magor-missabib.
Jer. 20:4 For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends; with your own eyes you will see them fall by the sword of their enemies. I will hand all Judah over to the king of Babylon, who will carry them away to Babylon or put them to the sword.
Jer. 20:5 I will hand over to their enemies all the wealth of this city—all its products, all its valuables and all the treasures of the kings of Judah. They will take it away as plunder and carry it off to Babylon.
Jer. 20:6 And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will go into exile to Babylon. There you will die and be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have prophesied lies.’”

Wow.

The priest “had” the prophet beaten. Like it was a decree or a hit. And then he’s imprisoned which means he would have just sat w/ his wounds for the night and not received any care or help or food, and then released.

The Jews took where their bodies were buried very very seriously, so for him to not have his body buried in Israel would be a real disgrace. It’s like God doesn’t even want their dead bodies in His land.

Jesus’ Exodus

Dan Sullivan · May 3, 2008 ·

Jer. 16:14 “However, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when men will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’
Jer. 16:15 but they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’ For I will restore them to the land I gave their forefathers.

When the Hebrews were enslaved in Egypt, it wasn’t because of rebellion or faithlessness. The Bible actually doesn’t give a reason for it unless you read between the lines about Pharoah and then it seems like it was done for God’s glory (which will disturb the prosperity folks). But here God says there is going to be a whole other time of slavery and bondage just like the years in Egypt, and they are going to be so great, there is going to have to be a whole new deliverance just like the Exodus.

That whole new bondage is life apart from the truth of the Law and apart from God. It’s the true spiritual bondage that they have all been in since Adam. I can just see some old guys talking in Heaven someday.

“The Red Sea? Shoot that wasn’t nuthin. Did you see what Jesus did to that curtain when He died on the cross? That’s what I’m talking about! That’s an Exodus baby!” [then he high fives Jesus and they laugh]

[something about that just made me sob for a bit]
