I read this this morning while watching for the never seen space shuttle:

Luke 10.16 who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.
Luke 10.17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, ‘Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.’
Luke 10.18 He replied, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
Luke 10.19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
Luke 10.20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.’

I read that and prayed, “God, was that just for the 12, or do you give me that authority too?” and He said, “you too!” and then I realized it wasn’t the 12, but the 72!

I was thinking about that, and about what Jesus says here. He wants us to be so meek, that we don’t even lord our authority over demons! “do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven!” We are to approach such things with such humility and respect that we don’t rejoice over our enemies-even when they are spirits!

How amazing is the compassion and humility of the all powerful and ever-living God! That His spiritual enemies, powers and principalities which we are against, are defeated by us, by His authority, but He doesn’t want us to rejoice over their defeat, He wants us to rejoice in His Victory!
